Urbanaut Brewing Co. is an independent brewery based in Auckland, NZ. They create some of New Zealand’s freshest and most innovative beers. Staying ahead in the game is fundamental to them, and in a world full of fun, unique label designs, it is key to have a point of difference. One such request was for a label that consumers could interact with.

In response to their request, they were shown a range from Fathom Optics who offer a suite of software-based embellishments which add motion and depth to designs by printing special patterns instead of using a lenticular lens.

The Fathom Optics effects are produced by using light field technology achieved by printing two effect plates with distance between each. They do not require any special inks, foils or equipment. The Fathom Designer portal provides creatives with the ability to trial the Fathom Effect patterns and view a replica of the result in 3D. Using this portal, the Urbanaut creative team could visualise the Fathom Effects in their label design as we worked with them, providing guidance on how to best enhance their design, tweaking colours and suggesting different varnish and stock options.

The Urbanaut Brera Prosecco Pilsner label was produced with a printed effect that provides fluid motion and depth to the design. All elements combine seamlessly to create an outstanding on-shelf presence and provide consumers with a mesmerizing interactive experience, elevating the label and product to be something beautiful and unique – like the beer itself.
