The Hidden Vineyard is a tiny one-hectare vineyard purchased in 2021 by Paul and Amy Mason that sits on the edge of the Te Muna terrace in Martinborough. Planted in Pinot Noir 20 years ago, the vineyard had been let go in recent years and required substantial remedial and resurrection work by Paul and Amy themselves. The Mason range is their first vintage off the vineyard, which is an incredibly exciting and rewarding milestone.
The premium Mason label design is classic, simple, clean and unfussy. The 100% cotton substrate has provided an uncoated backdrop for the solid colour designs. The burnt orange colour evokes feelings of warmth, comfort and happiness and looks striking on the dark Pinot Noir bottle. The dark charcoal is unexpected as not usually related to Rosé labels which gives Mason an instant point of difference. Together they feel like they are earthy, hardworking colours that perfectly suit Mason.
A blind sculptured emboss creates the feature MASON typography in tactile, three-dimensional glory. This feels beautifully crafted and considered as it speaks to the craft Mason put into resurrecting the site, caring for the land, vines and wine. It simply and subtly expresses Mason and the concept that masonry is the art and craft of fabricating in stone, clay, brick or concrete, but in this case land, stone, soil and earth. The large logo has been crafted to reflect how the winery has resurrected and cared for the site.
This considered label duo truly embodies the less is more philosophy to stunning success.
