Over The Line
We own 120ha of vines just south of the Coonawarra rail siding, which is the western side of the rail line and 60ha on the eastern side of the rail line. Peter Douglas had been buying fruit for a customer from us for a number of years. Peter always picked his fruit from our western vineyard. When we decided to have Peter be the winemaker for our new wine business, we gave him access to all our vineyards so he could pick the best.

He stuck to the western vineyard, known as Richings. Why not the east side which apparently is the best side? Peter simply said the purity of our fruit from Richings is amazing. He chooses his fruit based on taste and the Richings vineyard has red, brown and black soil, but importantly sits on a clay base, not a sandy base.
So it seems we have some pretty handy fruit on the ‘’wrong side of the tracks’’ hence our label Over the Line!
