About MAREA
Malaysian Recycling Alliance (MAREA), is Malaysia’s first voluntary, non-profit, Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) group. The consortium was established last in January 2021 with 10 initial member companies, namely Coca-Cola Malaysia, Colgate-Palmolive Malaysia, Dutch Lady Milk Industries, Etika Group of Companies, Fraser & Neave Holdings Bhd, Mondelez International (Malaysia), Nestle Malaysia, Spritzer, Unilever Malaysia and Tetra Pak Malaysia.
The Malaysian government has set out a commitment to have 25% of post-consumer packaging recycled by 2025. In line with this goal, MAREA aims for the same – to recycle a minimum of 25% of its members’ packaging volumes by the same year. They will support this by promoting the circular use of packaging in Malaysia via projects on education, collection and recycling. MAREA’s focus will be on the collection, separation and recycling of four types of post-consumer packaging materials, namely PET bottles, HDPE, flexible plastic packaging and used beverage cartons.
MCC wants to provide the most optimal label solutions that support these efforts and ensure that all packaging can be regionally recycled.
As a global supplier of premium label solutions, the collaboration with MAREA is really important for us as this will ensure that we can provide the optimal solutions for the Malaysian market.
