Santa Margherita was one of the first Italian wineries to produce sparkling wines from Glera grapes. Over time, it renewed that tradition in the form of Prosecco DOCG, which also required a more modern and innovative alternative for the product label.

In order to refresh the label, the company always sought to comply with the brand’s identity guidelines and maintain the Villa’s iconic image. The ancestral home of the Mazzorto family was redrawn to serve as the unifying element between all the wines and varieties of labels, along with the name of Santa Margherita in italics.

The redesign was practically ready, but it was necessary to test the label’s embellishments to ensure they would provide added value and also continue to be consistent with the entire wine portfolio. Santa Margherita needed an idea of ​​what its labels would look like before launching its runs, and that’s where MCC Italia were able to help. It did so by offering the unique service of supplying a prototype of the label using the real raw material (substrate and foil) to be used for the industrial production, along with the expert’s know how to manage the technology in order to closely match the results achieved for the industrial production. 

“With such a complex project, the MCC prototyping team was one of the strengths that convinced us to rely on the company for this new challenge. The attention to detail was scrupulous and the continuous search for the most suitable solution for our new bottling line, as well as the final aesthetic, allowed us to trust them implicitly,” commented Cinzia Coderin, Product Development & POP Specialist, Santa Margherita Winery.

The Santa Margherita design team provided MCC’s rapid prototyping experts with the front label artwork, consisting of a colored print, hot foil, some details in Braille and others in a hollow punch. Once received, the rapid prototyping expert worked closely with the client during the technical analysis and development of the test to define the raw material and finishes they wanted to project on their label sample.

When performing the prototype label test the result was magnificent, a ‘mandala’ inspired design with embossed and die-cut metallic accents. Santa Margherita received the test with all the embellishments they had requested and saw that it successfully conveyed the close sense of belonging for Santa Margherita to a territory from which it draws inspiration (Venice and its palaces), and to travel and speak in all the countries of the world with a single ‘tone of voice’. The company couldn’t wait to see what the actual label would look like on its bottles.
